The inverter welding machine Resanta Sai 220 is broken. Resanta welding machines. What should you pay attention to when choosing a Resanta inverter welding machine?

Recently, a welding machine has ceased to be an exotic tool. Many have acquired such equipment in their household, but even more owners of garden plots, garages, and so on, dream of purchasing a good tool for their needs. In this article we will talk about the Resanta SAI-220 inverter welding machine, discuss reviews from the owners of this device and consider the price/quality ratio for this product.

To begin with, it’s good to consider characteristics declared by the manufacturer:

  • welding current is adjustable from 10 A to 220 A
  • the diameter of the electrodes used is from 1.0 mm to 5.0 mm
  • the device is quite powerful - output power can reach 6.6 kW
  • connection to a standard 220 V electrical network
  • weight 4.9 kg, which makes it easy to carry the AIS during operation or transportation.

Resanta SAI-220. Owner reviews

According to the characteristics declared by the manufacturer, Resanta SAI-220 should be sufficient for professional use. But this is not so, in fact, the characteristics are overestimated by 15-20%, as evidenced by numerous reviews. However, you shouldn’t worry about this, because, for example, if you set the current to 210 A, then in fact you’ll get 180 A, which is enough to work with electrode 5 mm in diameter. If your network voltage is 220 V, then this welding machine will do its job perfectly.

The Resanta welding machine turned out to be a wonderful thing; it has quite a large number of positive aspects and differences from transformer welders.

Roman, Russia

Well, what to do when the network voltage is lower, for example, 190 V? Then it is better to use electrodes of a smaller diameter, for example, 4 or 3 mm. It is unlikely that you will need to weld metal 10 mm thick; for this you need a professional tool, and we are talking about the domestic use of a welding machine.

According to reviews, Resanta SAI-220 convenient due to small dimensions, which are 310x130x190 mm, are very easy to use, even for non-specialists. Plugs into a reinforced 220 V socket. Someone may complain that the power cord is short, but this can be solved by using a reliable extension cord with the appropriate wire cross-section. The low price of this model of welding machine compensates for this inconvenience.

I thought that there would be problems when working with stainless steel without the use of argon - no, everything is fine, the stainless electrode “3-4” does an excellent job. And in terms of duration, it also withstands long periods of work quite well.

Victor, Russia

Feedback from owners regarding mechanical loads on the Resanta AIS also speaks in favor of this device, fall from a height of up to one meter will not cause harm and your welding machine will continue to serve you reliably.

The cooling system of Resanta SAI-220, according to reviews from owners, works quite correctly. Shutdowns due to overheating occur only in the case of poorly connected contact groups or operation in maximum mode. In the first case, it is necessary to reconnect the wires, and in the second, you need to ensure that do not work with a 5 mm electrode for a long time at the maximum current parameter at low voltage in the electrical network. Owners note that when operating in the 140-150 A mode, there is no need to pause work to cool the welding machine.

I have been using the Resanta 220 inverter for the third year now, without a single repair. I immediately lengthened the standard wires, which helps in operation and makes it easier to use. Otherwise the inverter is quite convenient.

It is also important to pay special attention to reviews from owners of Resant SAI-220 regarding metal dust getting inside the welding machine. For long and flawless operation of your device, the instructions recommend that you blow off dust from your SAI after each use. But this is not so easy to do, since your welding machine is sealed. Remove the seal - means voiding the warranty, and it is one year. Therefore, it is necessary to take a different path. It is necessary to ensure that dust does not get inside. There are several options for this.

  • Firstly, you can wear the welding machine on your shoulder; for this purpose, the kit comes with a special belt.
  • Secondly, if you purchase additionally longer wires (according to reviews, up to five meters are recommended), in this case you can place the device on a stand so that it does not suck dust from the floor inside.
  • Thirdly, try not to use an angle grinder near the Resanta SAI. Metal dust and shavings getting inside the machine can lead to short circuits and damage, which will lead to expensive repairs and, as a result, increase the price of your welding machine.

A welder's work tasks involve the use of equipment to work in a variety of conditions. This could, alternatively, be different temperature conditions. For example, the Resanta AIS is stored in a cold room, but it needs to be worked in a warm one. In this case, condensation may settle on your welding machine; you should not immediately start working, you need to give it time moisture evaporates, otherwise you will have to take the AIS to the workshop for repairs.

Among the variety of models of the famous brand, the Resanta SAI-220 device is considered one of the most popular. In terms of technical characteristics and functionality, the inverter of this model can be classified as a device of both household and industrial type; it occupies an intermediate position between them.

Welding inverter Resanta SAI-220A and a convenient case for storage and transportation

It is thanks to these characteristics that this inverter can be equally successfully used both by professionals in their field to perform welding of increased complexity, and by novice welders taking their first steps in their profession.

Scope and technical characteristics

The Resanta SAI-220 welding inverter is a device that operates from a single-phase electrical network with a voltage of 220 V. A direct current is generated at the output of the device, which is used for welding using melting materials. If it is necessary to weld parts of small thickness, then such a device can even be connected to a regular household outlet (of course, provided that the electrical panel is equipped with machines that can withstand the current consumed by the device).

Using this inverter, you can not only effectively weld parts made of carbon steel, but also work with stainless steel and other alloy steels.

Although all Resanta brand inverters are manufactured in China, the circuits, construction and design of these devices were developed in Latvia. The brand name was also invented here, which today is well known to welders in many countries around the world. Among the technical characteristics of the welding machine in question, the following should be highlighted:

  • welding current control range – 10–220 A;
  • supply voltage value - 220 V (permissible deviations of the supply voltage can be 10% on the positive side (242 V), 30% on the negative side (154 V));
  • the current consumed by the device at peak load is 30 A;
  • open circuit voltage – 80 V;
  • rated operating voltage – 28 V;
  • ON duration (DS) when working at maximum welding current (220 A) – 70%, at welding current 10–140 A – 100%;
  • the diameters of the electrodes used are 1.6–5 mm;
  • protection class – IP 21;
  • inverter weight – 4.9 kg.
The listed characteristics explain the large number of positive reviews about this inverter.

In addition to the inverter of the specified model, its modification is presented on the market - Resanta SAI-220 PN. The difference between the Resanta SAI-220 PN inverter and the base model is that it allows welding to be carried out efficiently even at an even lower voltage - 140 V. In addition, the design of the Resanta SAI-220 PN has a digital indicator of the welding current, which makes work at more convenient. Naturally, the cost of the Reasant SAI-220 PN welding machine is slightly higher than the price of the basic inverter.

It is worth dwelling in more detail on such a remarkable parameter of the device in question as the on-time period (OP), or the period of continuous operation (LOP - load duration). As mentioned above, for the inverter in question it is 70% when operating at maximum welding current and 100% at current in the range of 10–140 A. This means that if you are going to weld at maximum current, then for a period equal to 10 minutes, you will need to take a break for 3 minutes, and the remaining 7 you can work quietly.

Such a break is necessary so that the electronic circuit of the device, the elements of which are intensely heated during the welding process, cools down. Otherwise, the device may automatically turn off if the thermal protection is triggered, or simply burn out. If you use a current whose strength is in the range of 10–140 A, then there is no need to interrupt the operation of the equipment.

Common malfunctions of SAI-220

The table below describes the most common malfunctions of the inverter welder model SAI-220 from Resant.

Advantages of using an inverter of this model

As with many models of modern inverter devices, this welding machine has a number of options that ensure high quality welded joints. Thanks to such options, a very important task is also solved - the influence of the welder’s qualifications on the quality of the joint being formed is minimized.

These options, which are familiar to many welders, include:

  • automatic shutdown of the device if the elements of the circuit diagram overheat (this option is possible due to the presence of a special temperature sensor);
  • “Hot start” is an option that ensures quick ignition of the welding arc due to the automatic supply of increased current to it;
  • “Anti-sticking” is a function that automatically turns off the welding current at the moment when the tip of the electrode is welded to the surface of the parts;
  • “Arc force” is an option that automatically increases the welding current when the arc length shortens and makes it possible to prevent sticking of the electrode.

The welding inverter under consideration provides enhanced protection of the elements of the circuit diagram from overheating. This protection is provided by several design features:

  • the presence of two fans at once, improving the cooling process of the device;
  • high resistance of electronic circuits to overheating;
  • the use of a temperature sensor that automatically turns off the equipment when it overheats.
The listed options are equally useful for both beginners and experienced welders, as they allow you to avoid many inverter malfunctions associated with overheating of the electronic filling, and also significantly expand the functionality and scope of use of the device.

The indisputable advantages of the inverter of this model also include the following.

  • The exceptional mobility of the inverter is ensured not only by its light weight, but also by the presence of a convenient shoulder strap, thanks to which the device can be carried to any place where welding needs to be carried out.
  • The housing and other elements of the inverter are highly resistant to mechanical damage, which can be caused by impacts, falling or overturning of the equipment.
  • The welding machine of this model is exceptionally compact (130x310x190 mm) and mobile.
  • If desired, you can order an inverter package that includes a special suitcase with a handle, in which it is convenient to store and transport not only the device itself, but also all the necessary cables.
  • The design of the inverter allows for its efficient operation even at fairly low ambient temperatures (down to –20). However, when welding at low temperatures, you should strictly monitor the heating and cooling conditions of the equipment.

The versatility of the Resanta model 202 inverter, ensured by its design features, is also a big plus. For example, this inverter can be used to connect parts made of different types of steel, including stainless steel.

Disadvantages of the Resanta model 220 inverter

Many specialists and organizations involved in sales of welding equipment, judging by the reviews, complain that among the inverters of the model in question there is a fairly large percentage of defects. Thus, there is data according to which out of 10 Resanta model 202 welding machines, 1–2 are not completed until the end of the warranty period and fail.

If you encounter a malfunction such as overheating of the inverter, you can fix it yourself or with the help of service specialists. Very often, overheating is associated with poor contacts between the elements of the electronic circuit and this problem can be eliminated by revising them. The situation is much more complicated when the electronic components of the inverter fail. In some cases, the cost of replacing such components can be comparable to the price of a new device.

The big disadvantage of inverters of this model is that the actual values of the welding current that they generate may diverge from the passport data by 15–20%. In most cases, this does not reduce the efficiency of using welding equipment, but nevertheless impairs its functionality.

Model 202 is not very effective when working with parts whose thickness exceeds 10 mm. In such cases (even using electrodes with a diameter of 5 mm), only surface melting of the metal is possible, and effective heating of the parts being connected does not occur over their entire thickness.

In general, reviews of the inverter of this model and the opinions of experienced specialists indicate that such a device is convenient and reliable in operation, and allows you to obtain high-quality and neat welded joints.

The ease of operation and maintenance of the device makes it easy to learn how to operate it, for which you can even use special videos. Of course, watching a video is best supported by theoretical knowledge that will help you thoroughly study the characteristics and capabilities of the equipment.

Inverter welding machine SAI-220 Resanta is intended for manual electric arc welding with a covered electrode.

The compact design, as well as the low weight of the device, allow the welder to move throughout the entire area of the work being performed.

Design and principle of operation of the SAI-220 inverter

Inverter welding machine SAI-220 made in a metal case. The front panel has a welding current regulator (Fig. 1, item 2), a “network” indicator (Fig. 1, item 3), an “overheating” indicator (Fig. 1, item 4), as well as power connectors for connecting welding cables (Fig. 1 pos. 5,6). Welding machine SAI-220 is equipped with a forced ventilation system 3, therefore, it is strictly forbidden to cover the ventilation holes in the housing with anything.

Principle of operation welding machine SAI-220 consists of converting alternating mains voltage with a frequency of 50 Hz into a direct voltage of 400 V, which is converted into high-frequency modulated voltage and rectified. To regulate the welding current, pulse-width modulation of high-frequency voltage is used.

Inverter SAI-220 has protection against overheating - if the protection is triggered (the light on the front panel lights up), you should make sure that there is no short circuit in the working cables and stop work without turning off the device for at least 5 minutes.

Welding machine SAI-220 equipped with the “ANTI STICK” (anti-sticking) and “HOT START” functions (hot start)

When starting welding, it is necessary to ignite the arc. This often leads to sticking of the electrode on the SAI-220 inverter. Welding inverter SAI-220, equipped with the “ANTI STICK” function, automatically reduces the welding current when the electrode “sticks”. Subsequently, after tearing off the stuck electrode, inverter SAI-220 resumes the set welding parameters.

To ensure better arc ignition at the beginning of welding, inverter SAI-220, equipped with the “HOT START” function, automatically increases the welding current. This will greatly facilitate the start of the welding process.

Among the inverter welding machines that are difficult to classify clearly as industrial or household, there is the Resanta Sai 220 inverter. Its characteristics differ from those of the Resanta line due to its high values of maximum welding current.

This gives you more room to work efficiently, as it allows you to weld more consistently and perform serious welding using thick electrodes.

Characteristics of Resanta SAI 220

The inverter's nameplate parameters are a serious bet on power and performance. Let's consider what values are declared by the manufacturer and what opportunities they provide.

  1. Weight is 4.9 kg - this is a very small value, which makes it easy to transport the device even by public transport and use it for mobile welding.
  2. Voltage idle speed is 80 V, and the arc voltage during operation is 28 V. The low voltage value makes it safer for the welder.
  3. The current adjustment range from 10 to 220 A ensures work with thin electrodes and surfaces at low current, and thick electrodes (up to 5 mm in diameter) at 220 A are sufficient for welding and cutting massive surfaces.
  4. Nominal mains voltage— 220 V. The permissible positive deviation is +10% (242 V), and negative -30% (154 V). The electrical network must be able to withstand the current consumed by the inverter up to 30 A, which is necessary when welding at maximum power (6.6 kW).
  5. Duration of load(PN) at 220 A - 40%. This is the fraction of time allowed for continuous welding in a short welding cycle. Having set the current to 140 A, there is no need to interrupt welding for cooling.

Reviews of the welding inverter Resanta SAI 220

Positive feedback from working with the SAI 220 inverter - convenience and simplicity.

The main users of Resanta Sai 220 do not have much experience in welding. This device is quite suitable for them, because it can be turned on and used literally after leaving the store, having first read the operating instructions. The inverter is easy to transport and has small dimensions - 310x130x190(195) mm, so it fits in a household bag or backpack.

Design features allow you to maintain a stable arc with constant parameters. This makes the weld more neat and durable, since it is formed from a continuously formed strip of melting metal and is a monolith.

When welding with machines that do not have the functions inherent in the Resant inverter - maintaining the arc due to a higher current, a hot start with an abrupt increase in current when touching the metal and anti-sticking (automatic reduction of the current, due to which the electrode easily comes off the surface being welded) - welding can turn into long attempts to light an arc and tear off the stuck electrode. The resulting weld is usually not of the highest quality and is far from monolithic.

The advantages of this inverter also include:

  • resistance to mechanical impact(impacts, falls from a height of up to one meter) without loss of performance is typical for an average device of this type;
  • opportunity to work until -20 degrees, observing the temperature regime of heating and cooling;
  • 2 cooling system fans that improve airflow inside the case;
  • resistance to overheating with failed fans. Practical tests show that the Resanta Sai 220 switches off only after expending two 5 mm electrodes, if the cooling system does not work;
  • acceptable price($260 to $290), which depends on the store and region. Ordering a device from a direct supplier is usually cheaper, but it is very difficult to find less than $260. It’s also not worth overpaying more than $290, it’s better to look further - there will definitely be options.

Notes when working with the Resanta Sai 220 inverter and its disadvantages

It is not known how these devices are tested at the manufacturing plant (located in China, although the trademark is registered in Latvia) and their quality is controlled before shipment, but the percentage of defects for this brand quite big and varies depending on the batch and place of sale.

Some sellers of welding equipment claim that for every ten machines there are one or two breakdowns during the warranty period. Failure of electronics cannot always be corrected, since repairs will cost little less than a new device.

Frequent overheating of the device, even when the fans are running, can be easily eliminated at a service center or independently by checking all electrical contacts.

One of the reasons for inverter failure is clogging with metal dust or chips that damage the sensitive conductive paths of microcircuits or lead to their short circuit, getting inside the case. You should avoid working with an angle grinder, which is a source of metal dust, near an uncleaned welding area. Without maintaining the correct thermal conditions and allowing moisture to form inside the case, it is easy to get a reason to take the inverter to a workshop.

Measurements of actual current parameters indicate inflated passport values. A study conducted by the magazine “Good Tool” showed that the nominal parameters exceeded the real ones by 15-20%. With a set welding current of 210 A, the actual value was 180 A. This is less than stated, but it allows you to work effectively without fully realizing your capabilities.

Working with large thicknesses of metal can be difficult, since the inverter is not able to provide complete heating of the metal and only performs surface deposition of a 10 mm steel sheet using thick 5 mm electrodes. Welding work on such sheets can take a long time, and the underrated specifications will not allow the use of a machine with 100% welding capacity for serious work.

This does not allow us to fully classify the inverter as an industrial type, which must provide high PN values during intensive operation.

The results of the review of the SAI 220 inverter indicate the following

Resanta Sai 220 is at the point where the capabilities are quite sufficient for domestic use, but not enough for full industrial use. Almost any home and country welding work can be performed with a less powerful machine, so a current reserve of up to 220 A is an additional safety net at low mains voltage.

It is not advisable to buy this inverter for routine, long-term work, since it simply will not withstand such a load. The build quality, as for inexpensive Chinese equipment, is quite acceptable, but can be disappointing due to its unpredictability.

The overall impression of the inverter's design and ease of use gives it +1 point compared to its closest competitors.
